Lena Waithe Says Hollywood Now Feels Like Walmart and McDonald's as Studios Consolidate

Speaking at Media Trends Live in New York on Oct. 20, Lena Waithe said "a lot of entertainment now feels like Walmart, feels like McDonald's" and asked, with studios consolidating, "Who do you even pitch an idea to?", Axios reports in an exclusive. She said Hillman Grad is now a smaller boutique operation, she is in talks to bring her stage debut 'Trinity' off-Broadway, and she personally financed two seasons of her 'Legacy Talk' podcast and is seeking outside financing for a third.

Why It Matters for Atlanta Professionals

For Atlanta's film and TV workforce and independent creators, a top Black producer saying studio consolidation has shrunk the buyer list is a signal to own audiences and line up financing outside the studio system.
