The Georgia Department of Public Safety says state troopers, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers and Capitol Police can now accept the state's digital driver's license and ID, Atlanta News First reported. Drivers hold their phone near the officer's identity reader rather than handing it over, and should still carry a physical license.
Why It Matters for Atlanta Professionals
It is a practical change for every Georgia driver. A 2025 state law, H.B. 296, requires police to be able to verify electronic licenses by July 1, 2027.
