Serena Williams Gets a $45 Barbie Signature Doll Modeled on Her 2005 Australian Open Win
Mattel has released a Serena Williams Barbie Signature doll to mark International Day of the Girl, Rolling Out reported Oct. 8. The doll recreates the green and white outfit she wore at the 2005 Australian Open, where she won her seventh Grand Slam singles title, and sells for $45 at Target, Mattel Creations and other major retailers. Williams took part in the design, focusing on the doll's skin tone and tightly curly hair texture.
Why It Matters for Atlanta Professionals
It is a holiday-season gift with meaning for parents, and an example of an athlete shaping how her own image is turned into a product.
