The Georgia State Transportation Board approved Top End Mobility Group as the apparent best value proposer for the I-285 East Express Lanes, a public-private partnership, Atlanta News First reports. The project adds about 34 miles of optional, barrier-separated toll lanes in both directions from Northside Drive to the I-285/I-20 interchange on the east side. Phase 1, two westbound lanes from Henderson Road to Northside Drive, starts construction in late 2027 with substantial completion in 2034, according to GDOT.
Why It Matters for Atlanta Professionals
I-285 carries about 250,000 vehicles a day. Anyone commuting, running crews or making deliveries around the Perimeter faces a long construction window and, later, a paid option with dynamic tolls of up to $2.06 a mile.
